Metropolitan Police Selects Kyberpass and Baltimore Technologies to
Provide an e-Security Infrastructure
Baltimore partners with Kyberpass to enable
secure, authenticated access to information for the 50,000 members of
the police force
OTTAWA, Canada — April 24, 2001
- The United Kingdoms Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has selected
Baltimore Technologies (NASDAQ:BALT;London:BLM), a global leader in e-security
and Kyberpass Corporation, a leading provider of e-security software for
trusted e-business, to provide the infrastructure necessary to secure,
protect and authenticate the 50,000 members of the force to enable trusted
access to sensitive information.
The Metropolitan Police selected Baltimore UniCERT Public Key Infrastructure
(PKI) system and Kyberpass Enterprise TrustPlatform, to provide strong
authentication of users within the force for trusted access to information
and databases. The initial application is being rolled out to 3,000 users
and future applications such as secure e-mail and other database applications
will be rolled out to the entire police force.
Baltimore UniCERT is the worlds leading PKI system for issuing and
managing digital certificates, which use strong encryption technology
to validate the electronic identity of people, devices, trusted communications,
transactions and information. Baltimore UniCERT is the worlds first
and only PKI system that is certified to ITSEC E3 level and is the product
of choice for business-critical deployments by financial, high-tech, service
provider and government organizations across the globe.
"Digital certificates give our members the confidence and security
which is necessary to enable secure access to vital information. They
help ensure that transaction information remains secure and confidential
and that only authorized parties can access specific databases. The combination
of Baltimore UniCERT and Kyberpass Enterprise TrustPlatform builds a strong
chain of trust that is essential to the members of the Metropolitan Police
Force, said Royston Barker, Infrastructure Program at the Metropolitan
Police Service.
Kyberpass fifth-generation PKI-middleware dramatically accelerates
the integration of enterprise applications with PKI systems. A member
of the Baltimore TrustedWorld partner program, Kyberpass solutions
combined with Baltimore e-security will ensure the provision of secure,
authenticated access to specific databases within the Metropolitan Police.
"Baltimore Technologies products and services helps the MetPolice
to make the important transition into the e-commerce economy," said
Charles Pierson, UK Government Business Development Manager, Baltimore
Technologies. What the Metropolitan Police needed was a security
provider who would provide a working e-security solution that meets the
Governments specifications. Baltimore UniCERT and Kyberpass are
an ideal combination.
Kyberpass Corporation is very pleased to have been selected by one
of the worlds most respected police forces, said David Lynch,
Managing Director of Kyberpass Europe. Their selection of Baltimore
UniCERT and Kyberpass PKI-middleware is a testament to the strong partnership
and technical interoperability that our companies enjoy.
