| Web Services is an evolving XML-based model
that defines a distributed computing environment that enables
companies to deliver their applications more effectively over
the Internet. Web Services are expected to revolutionize e-business
such that companies can dynamically form e-partnerships and
deliver improved levels of service to their customers and
business partners.
Web Services offer great potential for B2B communication
and integration across the Internet. Public key infrastructure
(PKI), in particular the digital signature, is the cornerstone
of the Web Services security infrastructure providing the
ability to confirm the identity of the entity (person, program,
organization) for whom a service is being requested, and recognizing
to what level of access that requestor is entitled. PKI, in
combination with SSL, provides the basis for ensuring the
confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation of transaction
service requests and responses.
The open standards architecture of Web Services is thus allowing
enterprises to draw more life out of their existing architecture
and application systems. But to do so, organizations need
to integrate their back-office applications with the new XML
Web services protocols and security standards to support business
integration scenarios where processes that are exposed as
Web Services can be externalized to partners and customers.
By implementing Kyberpass TrustPlatform as an XML Web Services
Gateway, it acts as an infrastructure middleware component
that provides a framework between the Internet and Intranet.
Web Services developers and IT Managers can therefore quickly
and safely "externalize" a Web service so that it
can be invoked by clients from outside the firewall. Kyberpass
TrustPlatform acts as a trusted on-ramp and off-ramp to the
Internet to allow XML transactions to be sent to and delivered
from trading partners.
Marketplace extensions can be added to provide specific services
related to a marketplace or B2B exchange. Kyberpass has marketplace
extensions for Identrus
such that the Kyberpass TrustPlatform can perform the role
of an Identrus OCSP Responder,
Transaction Coordinator, and Digital Signature Messaging System.
